Television
Acquisition process for Canada TV media.
Television
Unlike radio, television is not collected via internet stream or OTA antenna. Instead, a special appliance in the data center receives a direct signal feed from our supplier, Rogers. This feed provides the broadcast signal for all monitored television stations.
All television is classified as Canada TV, even though a small number of US television stations are included in the feed.
Checking for TV Outages
TV outages can be identified in three ways: via the Recording Graphics, the Recorders Tab, or email notifications.
Recording Graphics
The recording graphics are the primary method for catching TV outages. Two patterns indicate a problem:
Green blocks — no activity was recognized for that period, indicating the station is not being received.
Barcode pattern — the station is recording but not completing full 3-hour blocks. Short, fragmented recordings appear as a barcode-like visual in the graphics, indicating an intermittent signal issue.
Recorders Tab
TV outages can also surface in the Recorders tab, though this is less common. A yellow or red icon on a TV recorder indicates an issue with one or more stations. See Command Centre for details on how to read the Recorders tab.
Email Notifications
Adease has email notifications configured to alert staff of TV outages as they occur. These notifications are set up and managed by the Adease admin team.
Resolving TV Outages
TV outages cannot be resolved directly — they require contacting the supplier via email. In the email, specify the affected station and its UDP address, which is how the appliance receives that station's signal.
Finding the UDP
- Open the Recorders tab in Command Centre.
- Select the affected TV recorder.
- Locate the affected station and click the expand arrow beside it.
- Note the UDP displayed in the expanded view.
Include this UDP in your email to the supplier when reporting the outage.
