Station Changes

Handling call sign, format, and frequency changes for monitored stations.

Station Changes

Broadcasters occasionally make changes to their stations that require updates in Command Centre or the Adease back-end. Staying on top of these changes is important — an unaddressed station change can result in missed recordings, broken stream URLs, or inaccurate client data. Station changes are typically discovered through recording outages, client report discrepancies, or news articles about the broadcaster.

Call Sign Changes

A call sign change occurs when a station adopts a new identifier — for example, a station previously known as CFOX becoming CHNL. Call sign changes often coincide with a new stream URL, as broadcasters update their streaming infrastructure under the new identity.

⚠️ Needs review — The back-end steps for handling a call sign change require more detail. The steps below are a placeholder and should not be treated as a complete procedure until this section has been reviewed and updated.

When a call sign change is identified:

  1. Update the station's name in the Adease back-end to reflect the new call sign. See Adding or Editing a Station to a Recorder for reference on where the name field is located.
  2. Locate the new stream URL for the station and update it in Command Centre. See Replacing a Stream URL for instructions.
  3. Confirm the station resumes recording normally after the update.
  4. Notify the affected client of the call sign change. Refer to Client Services for delivery obligations.

Station Format Changes

A format change occurs when a station changes its programming — for example, switching from Top 40 to Country. Format changes do not typically affect the stream URL or recording setup, but they are relevant to the Adease taxonomy and client reporting.

When a format change is identified:

  1. Go to the Adease back-end and open the Media menu, then select Medias.
  2. Locate the affected station and open its record.
  3. Update the Media Type field to reflect the station's new format.
  4. Save the changes.
  5. Notify the affected client of the format change. Refer to Client Services for delivery obligations.

Frequency Changes

A frequency change occurs when a station moves to a different position on the dial. Depending on the collection method, the impact varies.

Stream stations — a frequency change may result in a new stream URL. Check whether the existing URL still resolves and replace it if needed. See Replacing a Stream URL for instructions.

OTA stations — a frequency change must be addressed promptly. OTA stations are collected using a URL that explicitly references the broadcast frequency. If the frequency changes and the URL is not updated, the recorder will continue capturing the old frequency — which may now carry a completely different station.

OTA collection URLs follow this format:

capture://fm2/104.1MHz

To update the frequency:

  1. Open Command Centre and navigate to the affected OTA recorder.
  2. Expand the affected station to reveal its collection URL.
  3. Update the frequency value in the URL to match the station's new frequency (e.g. 104.1MHz99.9MHz).
  4. Click Save Changes and Restart Recorder to apply.
  5. Notify the affected client of the frequency change. Refer to Client Services for delivery obligations.
